|After dropping out of Kalamazoo College, Ty Warner tried his hand at various jobs including stints as a busboy, bellman, valet car parker and fruit-market vendor. He soon found he enjoyed sales, selling cameras and encyclopedias door to door before becoming the top salesman at Dakin Toy Co. In 1985, Ty founded Ty Inc., which became massive with its line of Beanie Babies. An affordable overnight sensation, Ty made billions until the toys’ popularity waned in the 2000s.
Since then, Ty has spent his time investing in hotels, golf courses and other properties. He eventually formed his own chain of hotels—called Ty Warner Hotels and Resorts—which includes the Four Seasons Hotel in New York City, the Sandpiper golf course, the Four Seasons Resort and San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, CA, the Kona Village resort in Hawaii, the Montecito Country Club, the Las Ventanas al Paraiso Resort in Los Cabos, Mexico, Miramar resort and the Rancho San Marcos golf course.
