#81 Alexander Spanos and Family
By 1977, A.G. Spanos Cos. was the biggest US apartment builder, and it has remained one of the largest in the country. Now, Alexander’s family dynasty is in its third generation, with his sons and grandsons running different assets in the A.G. Spanos Cos. Alexander purchased the San Diego Chargers in 1984 for $80M—he had previously passed on the chance to buy the 49ers for $18M.
His team--now led by Alex's son Dean (pictured)--has gone to the Super Bowl once since, losing to the 49ers in an ironic twist. Alexander engages in many philanthropic pursuits, including health and fitness programs all over San Diego. He is still married to Faye after more than 67 years.
