Collier family

Barron Collier I had the fortunate foresight to scoop up 1M acres of real estate in Southwest Florida starting in 1911. Known for the development of the Tamiami Trail and draining the Everglades, Barron is credited with completely transforming Southwest Florida.

Today, the Collier fortune has been divided into two companies—Collier Enterprises and Barron Collier Companies—which together have a diverse portfolio with residential and commercial real estate, oil, golf courses and even conservation.

Barron Collier Cos is working on its Ave Maria development (in partnership with Domino’s Pizza founder Tom Monaghan), a self-sustaining town that will accommodate 11,000 residences and some 1.2M SF of commercial, medical and industrial space.

The family--including Barron's son, Barron Collier II (pictured)--still owns approximately 280,000 acres in Southwest Florida, and Florida’s Collier County is named in Barron’s honor.
