Edward DeBartolo inherited the DeBartolo Realty Corp founded by father Edward DeBartolo Sr., father of the shopping mall concept. The Debartolo Development portfolio includes 31,000 multifamily units, 2.7M SF retail, and over 700 hotel units. He took DeBartolo Realty public in 1994 and in 1996, merging the company with Simon Property Group to create the largest REIT in North America.
Edward is perhaps better known in the sports world as owner the San Francisco 49ers for 23 years (1977 – 2000), during which time the team won five Super Bowls. He was nominated for the 2016 NFL Hall of Fame class. He is still involved in real estate as CEO and founder of DeBartolo Holdings--a multi-platform family business that includes real estate development, events and marketing, and a pizza chain among others.
