After a $1.5B funding round in June, Brian and Joe's seven-year-old Airbnb is now worth $25B. A former body builder, Chesky met Gebbia at the Rhode Island School of Design, and soon the two found themselves renting out air mattresses when a design conference in San Francisco booked out the Bay Area’s hotels. Bringing in Gebbia’s former roommate, Nathan Blecharczyk, the two built out their peer-to-peer home and apartment rental company, which was originally called Airbedandbreakfast.com.
Today, the company has more than 60 million guests and 1.5 million homes. Forbes estimates that both Chesky and Gebbia each own 13% stake in the company. Last year, President Barack Obama appointed Brian as Presidential Ambassador for Global Entrepreneurship.
