John A. Sobrato

John Sobrato owns 7.5M SF of office space across Silicon Valley, including the HQ of Apple, Yahoo, and Netflix. He came by his real estate savvy naturally; his mother Ann was the first female real estate developer in the San Francisco region, starting her career in 1952 by selling the family restaurant business for $75k and investing in property in S.F.’s Peninsula area. John started selling real estate while attending Santa Clara University, arranging his classes to allow him to work three days a week.

He worked with his mother developing residential, commercial and industrial properties in what is now Silicon Valley, and founded the Sobrato Organization in 1979. Since, his firm has developed more than 15M SF of commercial space. John and his family foundation give grants to those not making a living wage in the Bay area and donate to local universities.
