Gigi Pritzker’s father, Jay, diversified his father’s company, the Marmon Group, building a portfolio of more than 60 industrial corporations. Jay and his brothers Robert and Doland also created the Hyatt Hotel chain in 1957 and owned Braniff Airlines from 1983 –1988.
Since 2006, the company has begun divesting assets, selling the Conwood tobacco company for $3.5B in 2006, then selling the Marmon Group to Berkshire Hathaway for $4.5B in 2007 and its majority stake in credit reporting company Transunion in 2010.
In addition to owning TMS International with her brother Thomas, Gigi has founded her own film, production and financing company, Odd Lot Entertainment. Odd Lot has gone on to produce critical darlings like Drive and box-office successes like Ender’s Game.
