SCHMOOZIN' WITH THE IN CROWD
FTI Consulting's Laura Jackson, SJP's Rocco Romeo and Steve Pozycki, and FTI Consulting's Chuck Gorum
What was the next best event to the UN General Assembly in New York City last week? Bisnow's third annual New York Real Estate Summit at Eleven Times Square (but without the traffic headaches). Here, we snapped the man who brought us the great event space: SJP Properties CEO Steve Pozycki (second from right) who joins FTI Consulting's Laura Jackson, SJP's Rocco Romeo, and FTI Consulting's Chuck Gorum. He says in order to develop a world-class property, your perspective has to be attuned to current market conditions and focused on future requirements. Forward-thinking companies demand unparalleled location, technological and energy-efficiency advantages, and high-performance new construction to attract future workforce and maintain competitive edge.

STUDIOS Architecture's Todd DeGarmo and David Yanks flank Aragon Construction's Joseph Lopardo and Alex Getelman. STUDIOS CEO Todd tells us he's seeing leading companies taking advantage of the downturn to maximize their real estate assets. Developers are repositioning or renovating properties to make them more attractive to potential tenants, while STUDIOS's commercial clients are redesigning office spaces to maximize density and therefore efficiency of their leases.
Transel Elevator's Stirling Collins, snapped here with Schulman Wolfson& Abruzzo's Steve Perrotta and Harry Dublinsky
If anyone knows the ups and downs of our industry, it's Transel Elevator's Stirling Collins, snapped here with Schulman Wolfson & Abruzzo's Steve Perrotta and Harry Dublinsky (we can't resist a good elevator joke). The trend: destination dispatch elevators, which everyone who joined us at Eleven Times Square rode that morning. Punch in a number, and the display tells you which elevator to grab. This type of elevator gives you 30% more efficiency during peak periods, he says.

Landstar Title Agency's Marco Botarelli and SBJ Advisors' Steve Jason chat up panelist Gary Rufrano of Clarion Partners and moderator Andrew Jagoda of Katten Muchin Rosenman before the event. Steve tells us there wasn't much time to play at the beach this summer—he spent most of the time helping smaller regional banks(with pressure to unload their assets) recap and execute sales. Marco reports increased activity in all boroughs for mixed-use properties, from construction to permanent financing.
Meridian Capital Group's Gavriel Kahane and CBRE's Brett Shannon and Emily Jones
Meridian Capital Group's Gavriel Kahane and CBRE's Brett Shannon and Emily Jones. Brett, who recently graduated from Hamilton College, and Emily, who graduated from Stanford, are new to the industry. They recently joined CBRE's “Wheel Program,” a learning and development rotational program that gives new recruits a taste of different services lines. They tell us that they started in research and will experience four service lines (including brokerage and investment sales) over the next year and a half.

Ted Moudis Associates' Lucy Carter, Monteroy Anderson DeMarco's Richard DeMarco, Herrick Feinstein's Doug Heller, and ClickPay's Steven Kamhi. We learned Ted Moudis Associates is in the final stages of completing the HQs of Tiffany & Co and the National Football League. Both clients have been successful in reaching LEED certification. (Tiffany, of course, went Platinum—did the certification come in a little blue box?)
Donnelly Mechanical Corp's Rob Ragozine, ConEdison Solutions' Tom Krol, Tobron Office Furnitures's Amy Bearss, BBH Solutions' Eddie Lanzetta, and Murray Hill Properties' Jesse Reubens
Donnelly Mechanical Corp's Rob Ragozine, ConEdison Solutions'Tom Krol, Tobron Office Furnitures' Amy Bearss, BBH Solutions'Eddie Lanzetta, and Murray Hill Properties' Jesse Reubens. Tom tells us that ConEdison Solutions, which sponsored the event, recently launched VPower, a proprietary software platform that optimizes a customer's energy usage and onsite generation across buildings and energy resources. Customers with VPower then become a virtual generator, selling back energy, ancillary services, and capacity to the market. (Call it demand response on steroids.)
