Cara Operations is acquiring New York Fries and its 120 retail locations across Canada (including the one above at Crombie REIT’s Avalon Mall in St John's, NL) and 36 abroad. Jay Gould launched NYF in 1984 in Brantford, ON, with brother Hal (and subsequently founded South St. Burger Co in 2005). NYF’s head office will reclocate to Cara’s Vaughan HQ and NYF EVP Warren Price will join Cara, which had its IPO in April. The company said the NYF acquisition helps diversify its portfolio in shopping centres where its existing 10 brands—including Harvey's, Swiss Chalet, Kelsey's, Montana's and Milestones—currently have limited presence.
