Stonebriar Centre owner GGP will redevelop the former Dick’s Sporting Goods space on the mall’s north side into a covered outdoor area surrounded by restaurants and retailers. The company, which is Brookfield's retail division, didn’t disclose the cost of the planned redevelopment or any tenants but said the project would bring new energy and fresh opportunities to the mall.

“Our redevelopment plans represent a new era for this beloved shopping center, and we look forward to sharing details about what’s ahead as this exciting transformation takes shape,” GGP Head of Development Adam Tritt said in a statement sent to Bisnow.

Work on the redevelopment, which appears to be similar to The District at Willow Bend area of Plano's The Shops at Willow Bend mall, is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027, The Dallas Morning News reported. The District at Willow Bend features restaurants such as Knife Steakhouse, Whistle Britches and Mexican Bar Co. around an outdoor courtyard just outside the Plano mall.

Dick’s Sporting Goods vacated the space to open a new concept in the mall’s former Sears space. Its House of Sport store will offer interactive activities such as golf simulators, putting greens and rock-climbing walls in addition to the chain's regular athletic gear and apparel.

Dick's House of Sport is slated to open Nov. 13.

Stonebriar Centre is one of the strongest-performing malls in GGP's portfolio, Vice President of Leasing Randy Holcombe told Bisnow last month.

The 1.7M SF mall's visitor totals have risen every year since the pandemic and were up nearly 3% through the first eight months of the year, according to data from Placer.ai. GGP has catered its tenant mix to the city’s affluent, well-educated customers, with Holcombe noting that Stonebriar has opened more than 90K SF of new stores over the past few years.
