Canadian doughnut and coffee giant Tim Hortons, which has a presence in southern and central Ohio, will expand into northern Ohio, including the Cleveland market, in 2018. The brand is ultimately planning to open 105 stores in northern Ohio, Cleveland.com reports, though the company has not released a full schedule.

Besides greater Cleveland, Tim Hortons is planning stores in Akron, Ashtabula, Canton, Sandusky, Warren, Youngstown and other markets. The company said it hopes to have its first northern Ohio location open in May, though it has not specified where that will be.

Founded in Ontario in 1964, Tim Hortons owned or franchised more than 4,600 restaurants as of the end of 2016. It merged with Restaurant Brands International in 2014, which also owns Burger King and recently acquired Popeye's.

Most Tim Hortons are in Canada, with only about 15% of the total in the United States — mostly Michigan, Ohio and New York — though that number is increasing. Part of Restaurant Brands' growth strategy is expanding Tim Hortons in the United States.

The brand has expanded from doughnuts and regular coffee. It now also offers espresso, cappuccino and lattes, along with sandwiches and other food items.
