Restaurant Brands International is in talks to seal the deal and buy Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.
People familiar with the matter said Restaurant Brands is likely to buy the fried-chicken fast food chain for $1.7B before the end of this week, Reuters reports. If the deal closes, Restaurant Brands will try to use its international business, which includes fast food shops like Burger King and Tim Hortons, to bring Popeyes to more customers.
Chicken eateries only make up about 10% of the fast food industry, according to IBISWorld, and Popeyes is consistently taking over more market share. The firm manages 1,600 restaurants in the U.S. and another 400 internationally.
