Airbnb Wants To Become An All-Encompassing Global Travel Behemoth
Airbnb’s board met last Thursday to decide whether it should buy Luxury Retreats International. Regardless of the decision it is clear Airbnb has it sights on becoming something more than just a home-sharing platform.
According to three people with knowledge of the firm’s plans, Airbnb wants to expand into a full-service travel company by making acquisitions in luxury resorts, air travel aggregation, group payment software and guest-management services, Bloomberg reports. The sources said Airbnb is particularly interested in deals targeting India and China.
While Airbnb has not commented on its specific business plan, experts said acquisitions could help the company create new revenue sources after being forced by regulators to place limits on its home-sharing services.
