Edward DeBartolo Jr.’s father is considered the father of the modern shopping mall. Edward Jr. inherited the family business (Edward J. DeBartolo Corp.) and real estate portfolio, which includes over 30,000 residential units, 2.7M SF of retail and 700 hotel units.
In 1994, he took DeBartolo Realty public, and two years later merged it with Simon Property Group, spawning the largest REIT in North America.
From 1977 to 2000, he owned the San Francisco 49ers. The team won five Super Bowls during that time, the most in the NFL. He serves as CEO of DeBartolo Holdings — a multi-industry family business with interests in real estate development, events and restaurants. — Scott Klocksin
