Mark Cuban is best known as the owner of the Dallas Mavericks and for his role in the reality show “Shark Tank,” but he is also an occasional real estate investor.
The Mavericks’ practice facility in Dallas’ Design District opened in 2016 as the first phase of a multi-use project owned by Cuban. He also owns Microloft, a sensor technology company that provides a better way for retailers, building owners and managers to measure and understand traffic patterns around their properties.
His fortune was first built through MicroSolutions, a company he founded in the 1980s and sold in 1990. He later invested in Broadcast.com, an early streaming site, and cashed in when the company was acquired by Yahoo in 1999.
He has owned the Landmark Theatre chain since 2003, and is a major stakeholder in cinema operator Reading International. His other holdings include film distributor Magnolia Pictures. He put Landmark and Magnolia up for sale in 2011, but did not get a high enough bid to sell either. He has made failed attempts to buy the Chicago Cubs, LA Dodgers and Texas Rangers. — Scott Klocksin
