“We can has cat cafe!” With those words on its Breaking Mews blog, Vancouver’s first-ever Catfe announced it's received the OK to start construction, with opening slated for October at International Village Mall (88 W Pender St). The Catfe is part “catified” cafe and shop, part foster home for cats, via a partnership with the Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association. The store's landlord is "just as excited about our business as we are,” the blog notes, and has been "encouraging and patient throughout our lengthy permitting process with the city.” A purrfect match.
