Choice Properties REIT has unveiled its plans to redevelop Golden Mile Shopping Centre at 1880 Eglinton Ave E into a transit-oriented mixed-use community. The firm’s proposal (rendered above) envisions a connected network of new streets and open spaces with retail — anchored by a Loblaw-bannered food store — and a range of new housing types and employment uses that complement the City of Toronto's investment in transit along the Eglinton Crosstown corridor. The 19-acre mall site is bookended by two future LRT stations at Victoria Park and Pharmacy avenues. Giannone Petricone Associates is the master plan architect.

A new public park and two public squares are also proposed, to reinforce the site’s role as a destination and neighbourhood hub, Choice said. The development will be phased, starting with relocation of the 237k SF No Frills, followed by demolition of the existing mall and creation of a public park and east-west street through the property.
