For a delivery fee of $7 to $10, Walmart shoppers can order groceries online and have them delivered by an Uber or Lyft driver for a limited time. This two-week test in Phoenix, San Jose and Denver investigates a new method of competing with Amazon, adding to a pilot program Walmart started in March in Miami that uses Deliv for delivery of general merchandise to Sam’s Club members’ front doors.

Walmart has been offering a curbside pickup to customers for some time, providing the option at 200 stores across 54 markets, the Arizona Republic reports. The company notes 90% of its curbside customers are repeat users and 90% of those orders include perishable goods such as dairy and produce. The new test involves the same process inside the store, utilizing a personal shopper to select products, but tacks on the additional convenience of Uber or Lyft delivering the items. On future plans to continue the delivery service, Walmart Global e-commerce EVP and COO Michael Bender wrote in a blog post that the company will “start small and let our customers guide us." [AZR]
