NYC's First Amazon Go Store Coming To Brookfield Place

Amazon is reportedly bringing its cashier-free store Amazon Go to New York City, and has selected Brookfield Place for the location.

Amazon has opened three Amazon Go stores in Seattle and two in Chicago, with another on the way in Chicago, Recode reports.

There is also one that opened Tuesday in San Francisco.

Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos is said to be mulling a vast expansion of the concept, with possible plans to open as many as 3,000 stores in the next three years.

Under the plan, there could be as many as 10 Amazon Go stores open by the end of 2018, according to reports, 50 by the end of 2019 and 3,000 by 2021.

The stores sell groceries and prepared food, and the first store — which is on the ground floor of the e-commerce giant’s Seattle headquarters — sells alcohol.

Retailers and landlords in New York are already grappling with how to handle e-commerce's growing hold on consumers. Amazon also owns Whole Foods, a move that was considered a major shake-up to the food and grocery industry.
