Lauren Maturo, vice president of marketing at RXR, died Saturday.

Maturo was killed in a multivehicle crash on the Garden State Parkway in Toms River, New Jersey, caused by a tractor-trailer stopping behind a disabled car, News12 New Jersey first reported.

RXR Chairman and CEO Scott Rechler announced Maturo's death in a LinkedIn post Wednesday.

“Lauren Maturo was a bright light who made every room she entered feel a little warmer,” Rechler's post says. “She was a treasured member of the RXR team and a dear friend to so many of us.”

Maturo lived in Syosset, New York, Commercial Observer reported. She is survived by her parents, Paula Maturo and Michael Maturo, who is RXR's president, as well as sisters Elise Maturo and Jillian Maturo.

A wake was held Thursday afternoon, and her funeral Mass is planned for Friday morning. Her family has asked attendees to wear bright colors as a tribute, Rechler said in his LinkedIn post.

“Our industry has lost an exceptional talent,” Sarah Berman, president of marketing firm The Berman Group, told Bisnow by email from her train on the way to Maturo’s wake. “Those who knew Lauren have lost something far greater: a vibrant, generous spirit whose creativity, kindness and passion made everything and everyone around her brighter.”

Lauren Maturo spent eight years building a marketing career and had made it her mission to mentor younger associates at the development firm, Commercial Observer reported. In that time, she worked with creative studio SDX Studio on properties in RXR’s portfolio, including the Starrett-Lehigh Building and Pier 57.

Lauren Maturo was also in her second year of pursuing a master's degree in real estate from New York University’s Schack Institute of Real Estate and would have graduated next December, according to her LinkedIn page.

She was an athlete from an early age. According to Commercial Observer, Lauren Maturo played basketball for Syosset High School and later played basketball and track and field at Carnegie Mellon University.

She was also involved in the 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s annual charity run, Jan Llanes, vice president of corporate giving at the museum, told Commercial Observer.

Tributes to Lauren Maturo on an obituary page describe her as a warm, thoughtful community member who championed those around her.

“Lauren inspired me,” Yelle Belle, a marketing executive at RXR, wrote in a post on Maturo’s obituary page. “She showed me what it looked like to authentically be yourself at work.”
