The 770K SF Circle Centre mall in Downtown Indianapolis is slated for a major renovation, according to Circle Centre Partnership, a consortium of Downtown businesses that owns the shopping center. Locally based Simon Properties manages the mall.

The move comes in the wake of various store closings at the property, including Gap and Talbots but most notably anchor Carson's, whose parent, Bon-Ton Stores, announced in January that the Circle Centre location was going to close as part of a larger series of store closures.

The two-year renovation will include remodeled bathrooms, flooring, lighting and elevators, improved entrances and an overhaul of the third-floor food court that will include new lounge areas, banquette seating and community tables, IndyStar reports.

Simon Properties drafted a proposal for renovating Circle Centre in 2015, but the new plans do not reference that plan. Nor do they address the question of replacing lost tenants.

Though the property has lost retailers in recent years, it has also gained some experience-oriented tenants. These include Nada, Yard House, Punch Bowl Social, Primanti Brothers and Burger Study. Also planning to open at Circle Centre are Burn by Rocky Patel, a cigar lounge, and Tony's Steak and Seafood.

The owners have tapped CSO Architects to design the upgrades. Pepper Construction will do the construction work.
