Grocers Gung Ho for Denver

Among retailers, supermarkets are currently the most aggressive in the market because this sector is performing incredibly well throughout metro Denver, Cassidy Turley SVP David Fried tells us. This part of Colorado is a hot spot when it comes to new food concepts, and now a number of existing North American retailers are looking to open their first locations in Denver. “Food operators have been successful here compared to other retailers because they’re able to generate the necessary sales to justify paying higher rents,” he says. (If this means everyone's getting better at cooking, how come no one is sharing with us?)

One of the most aggressive grocery newcomers to Colorado is California-based Trader Joe’s. Earlier this week, the store announced that it is opening another Colorado location, this one in 12k SF at University Village Colorado shopping center in Colorado Springs, a deal brokered by Olive Real Estate Group. Last month, the grocer opened three stores in Denver, Greenwood Village, and Boulder and has plans to open two more in Denver and Fort Collins later this year. (The ramen is coming, people.)
