Retail as a whole might be having a hard year, but even so new retail properties are attracting retailers in growth markets like Charlotte, especially to mixed-use developments. MPV Properties recently inked deals with another round of retailers for its proposed Harris Teeter-anchored mixed-use development, Riverbend Village, which will include 320K SF of retail space, 385K SF of office and 600 residential units.

Anytime Fitness will occupy a 6K SF freestanding building in the center, while Wild Wing Cafe will take more than 7K SF in another building. TCBY has leased 1.600 SF in front of Harris Teeter and The Dental Company is taking more than 2,400 SF in a multi-tenant outparcel along Mount Holly Huntersville Road.

Additional leases are being negotiated with a yoga studio, a pizza restaurant, a breakfast restaurant, a pet supply store and a veterinary hospital.

MPV's Joey Morganthall and Keely Hines handle the leasing for the development partners, Simpson Commercial Real Estate and Landmark Development Group. The Northwest Charlotte development will be completed in about a year.
