Sanford Diller is considered one of the largest multifamily owners on the West Coast. The 90-year-old former lawyer is a San Francisco native. His San Mateo-based Prometheus Real Estate Group owns more than 15,000 units in developments in the San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle and Portland. It bills itself as offering the ultimate neighbor experience. Retail and office are also part of the company’s portfolio. Diller’s daughter, Jackie Safier, is Prometheus’ president.
Diller also founded The Helen Diller Family Foundation, which is named for his late wife. The foundation donated $500M earlier this year to UCSF, reportedly the largest single donation ever made to any school in the history of the University of California. — Karen Jordan
