Pike Place's Foodie Dreams

Lots of mixed-use properties include restaurants, but the addition to the Pike Place Market is going to take things a step further for foodies: artisan tenants will make food there. (Guy Fieri need not apply.) Find out more at Bisnow’s Future of the Waterfront on June 17 at the Four Seasons Seattle. Sign up here.

“We’re looking at a brewery tenant, and other tenants who celebrate the act of making food,” says Pike Place Market Preservation and Development Authority executive director Ben Franz-Knight, who's going to be one of our panelists. When the development is complete, visitors will likely be able to see brewers brewing or coffee roasters roasting or chocolatiers making chocolate (chocolafying?).

Ben tells us that the new Pike Place project actually is an old dream, fulfilling a plan made in the 1970s to connect Downtown with the waterfront. (Like a lot of plans made in the '70s, they got sidetracked by the '80s.) Currently the project is in the construction document phase, and the Authority is negotiating a development agreement with the City of Seattle. Also on our panel will be experts from Callison, Friends of Waterfront Seattle, Hudson Pacific Properties, Miller Hull, the City of Seattle, Unico Properties, and Urban Visions. Go on, sign up here.
