San Marcos' Restaurant Row Has Plans For Major Makeover

Google Maps

The Old California Restaurant Row in San Marcos is getting a makeover that will replace vacant storefronts with new eateries and entertainment. Local developer John Clement is working with property owner Bob Eubank, whose parents established restaurant row in the '70s with a fruit stand that sold pies, to raise the local landmark's icon status.

A grand promenade that will feature restaurants with outdoor seating, and public gathering areas along San Marcos Boulevard will connect with other retail amenities in the surrounding neighborhood. A pathway will lead to the nearby Edwards Theater. A vacant building next to the theater, formerly a Sears store, will be demolished by local developer Mike McDonald of The McDonald Group, to make way for a mixed-use project with retail shops on the ground level and apartments above, according to the San Diego Union Tribune.

Additionally, new 7k SF and 12k SF buildings are planned for the back end of the parking lot that will become a large venue or several separate ones. Though two years in planning, the project has not yet been submitted for the city’s approval. [SDUT]
