Let There Be (Money For) Lights

Snapped at the Local Eatery & Drinking Hole recently: Schwartz Commercial partner James Langley, Downtown San Diego Partnership prez Kris Michell, and Mayor Kevin Faulconer at the Light Up the Night Fundraiser. They're raising money to add twinkle lights to trees on C Street. It's not mere decoration: Faulconer says lights make streets more attractive to pedestrians and keep people on the street. Studies have shown that even this kind of low-intensity lighting makes streets safer. Since spring, Downtown San Diego Partnership has paid to light 400 trees elsewhere Downtown.

James is one of the Schwartz partners who recently acquired the Local on C Street. The buy was a natural outgrowth of the work the company does repping nearby restaurants in real estate deals, he tells us. Fun fact about James: He used to play semi-pro baseball for the Duluth Huskies in the Northwoods League, which is comprised the top college players. These days, he volunteers at the Tecolote Youth Baseball Academy, coaching 13- and 14-year-olds.
