Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, the movie theater chain known for its food offerings and strictly enforced no talking and texting policies, will anchor the 50K SF The Collective, a project by DBM Ventures at Rural and Baseline roads in Tempe.

Other retailers for the property have not been announced, but the developer anticipates inking leases shortly with restaurants, fitness facilities and other retailers.

“Tempe is increasingly becoming a walkable, bikeable city, and The Collective is going to cater to that,” DBM Ventures’ Bret Anderson said.

Visitors will find parking at the development not only for vehicles, but for bikes, as well as a pedestrian-friendly design.

The property, designed and built by LGE Design Group, is slated for completion in early 2018. Adjacent to it, JLB Partners is developing The Harper, a 367-unit apartment property that will be completed later this year.

Austin-based Alamo Drafthouse has 26 locations, the majority of which are in Texas, with others in the works. Its other Phoenix-area location is in Chandler.
