New Development Lands On Burgeoning 7th Street's Restaurant Row

The latest development on 7th Street is The Colony, an adaptive reuse project backed by Western Vertical Holdings. The Colony houses 22k SF of prime restaurant space, crafted partially from a 1950s building that stood vacant in recent years. This portion of the project is now complete and its residents are open for business.

Phase 1’s tenants offer a range of options. Stock & Stable brings Italian influence to American gastropub. Owner and chef Joe Absolor says, “7th Street is the up-and-coming restaurant row of uptown Phoenix. I think Stock & Stable will become an institution in the neighborhood. We opened really strong.”

Other Phase 1 restaurants include Honor Amongst Thieves, a craft cocktail lounge pictured below, as well as Pure Sushi and Herb Box, offering world cuisine. The project is also home to a few boutiques, including Framed Ewe for optical needs, and Phoenix General, which offers apparel and home goods.

The Colony’s Phase 2 is an 8,100 SF ground-up project. Tenants Cycle Bar, an indoor cycling studio, and Urban Wax, specializing in hair removal, will open early next year. A hip, modern Mexican concept restaurant also will be part of Phase 2, with more details to come.

“We’ve been pleased with the excitement and buzz generated by The Colony. With local restaurateurs and an infill location, The Colony is sure to be a culinary and entertainment destination for consumers,” Western Vertical Holdings partner and LGE Design Build president Dave Sellers says. “Densely populated areas are an increasingly popular destination for restaurants and retail.” LGE Design Build is the general contractor for both phases.

Local artist Keanan Kasten was commissioned for the 30-foot mural gracing the side of Phase 1, above. It features an astronaut taking a selfie, accompanied by the slogan, “What else is possible…”

“The design, culture and creativity of this project represent the future of retail. This is about experiences,” says Western Vertical Holdings partner Bob Agahi. “We crave discovery and consumers want something different. They want the opposite of a chain-like experience. The Colony seems to have caught that magic, and we hope when it is finished it speaks to a new era of experience-driven restaurant-anchored retail."
