One of the nation's largest affordable housing nonprofits has brought on a new executive to lead its operations.

Enterprise Community Partners announced Thursday it hired Drew Warshaw as chief operating officer, a newly created position for the organization. Warshaw comes from the renewable energy sector, and he has previously held public sector positions in New York.

Warshaw spent the last two years at Clearway Energy Group, where he managed the company's community solar business. Prior to that, he spent seven years at NRG Energy, where he helped launch a renewables division. His NRG division was acquired in a 2018 deal that formed Clearway Energy Group.

Before working in renewable energy, Warshaw spent three years with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, serving as chief of staff to the executive director. While in that role managing the 7,000-person transportation agency, he worked on the rebuilding of the World Trade Center, and was credited with being a driving force to push through bickering and launch the successful redevelopment of the site, six years after the attack. He previously worked as assistant secretary to then New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer.

Warshaw's hiring comes one year after Enterprise named a new CEO, Priscilla Almodovar, who previously served as co-head of real estate lending at JPMorgan Chase.

“Drew’s track record of developing strategy and relentlessly executing it in both public and private sectors makes him a perfect fit for this new role,” Almodovar said in a release. “He is fiercely committed to our mission and has all the tools to make a difference. We’re thrilled to have him.”

In his new role at Enterprise, Warshaw will lead the implementation of the organization's five-year strategic plan. The Columbia, Maryland-based nonprofit, founded in 1982, has invested more than $50B and helped build more than 662,000 homes.
