The Cherry Cricket, a burger-and-beer favorite in the Denver region since 1945, will open its fourth location early next summer in Broomfield.

The new location, at 1280 E. First Ave., will occupy a former Old Chicago space and total about 8.5K SF, including a covered patio, according to a press release.

Once in operation, according to the company, the location will create about 150 new jobs.

Frequently named among the best in the city for burgers, the restaurant has long been a staple for Denverites but began its expansion campaign in 2018 with the opening of a Ballpark location. A Littleton location followed last year, marking its foray into suburban markets.

Cherry Cricket was purchased in 2000 by Breckenridge-Wynkoop, the hospitality company affiliated with Colorado Sen. John Hickenlooper, who is credited with opening the city's first brewpub in the 1990s.

The Cherry Cricket signed a 10-year lease with extension and purchase options, according to the Denver Business Journal. The company searched throughout metro Denver for its new spot, from Boulder to Castle Rock, the DBJ reported.

The news from Cherry Cricket is another example of how Colorado’s restaurant sector has evolved in recent years.

Last month, Sonia Briggs, president and CEO of the Colorado Restaurant Association, told Bisnow how a variety of challenges, from inflationary pressures to encumbering regulations, have all taken their toll on the state’s restaurant industry and forced a number of independently owned, full-service restaurants to close.

But restaurant tenants with good credit, established names and a proven base of patrons are still on growth tracks, opening new stores to leverage the area's swelling population.
