Costa Rica?s minister of tourism Allan Flores Moya (right) meets new Charlotte Panthers coach Ron Rivera during a recent tour of Bank of America Stadium. Allan was in town to promote tourism and industry and herald the upcoming Gold Cup soccer match planned at the stadium between Costa Rica and El Salvador June 9. During the two-day visit, Allan also met with Gov. Bev Perdue, Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx, chatted up some chamber honchos, took in Charlotte Motor Speedway, and had an audience with Charlotte-Douglas International Airport director Jerry Orr. (Now that's a coup.) Allan tells us Costa Rica these days is about more than bananas and coffee. The Central American country has diversified into the IT field and is a growing manufacturer and exporter of medical supplies. He's also anxious to see more Charlotte travelers join the one million-plus Americans who visit his country every year. |
