Cresa hired Knowles as executive managing principal and Atlanta market leader to oversee strategic growth in the region, according to a Tuesday press release. The hiring fills the hole left by Chris Scott, who departed as Atlanta market leader in March of last year.

The Atlanta Business Chronicle first reported the hiring on Tuesday.

“Atlanta is a very important market for Cresa,” Cresa President Julie Northcutt-Dunn said in the release. “Nathan’s deep roots and proven track record of success are a real advantage for us as we continue to strengthen our client-first platform.”

Knowles previously served as Transwestern’s executive managing director and principal for the Southeast region. He had moved to Transwestern from Colliers last September.

Knowles said he departed Transwestern in June. When asked why he left, Knowles told Bisnow in an interview that “it just didn’t work out there.”

After leaving Transwestern, Knowles said he was careful in searching for his next role. He met with Tom Tindall, Cresa’s executive managing principal, over the summer about the opportunity, and they “just clicked,” Knowles said.

“I don’t want to be a jumper who moves along. So I was very deliberate for my next role, and it’s been a perfect fit so far,” he said.

Chicago-based Cresa is a brokerage firm focused entirely on commercial real estate tenant services, including leasing, project development, asset management and consulting, according to its website. Cresa’s Atlanta office was co-founded by Tindall and Jim Byrd in the 1990s.

Knowles said he sees an opportunity to expand Cresa deeper into project and development services, specifically in this region. He also aims to expand the Atlanta office's 38-member roster by 35% over the next two to three years, according to the ABC.

Knowles said he likes how Cresa is fully focused on tenant representation work and sees an opportunity to beef up its staff with office and industrial brokers, as well as expand into other disciplines such as healthcare and retail.

Tindall will remain as executive managing principal along with Brooks Morris, according to the ABC.
