Two More Award-Winning Austin Chefs Head To Houston

Austin institution and home of legendary queso Kerbey Lane Cafe is finalizing its first expansion outside the Austin area after nearly 40 years of serving the community. At a Valentine's Day event hosted by the Austin Business Journal, the company's CEO said it was finalizing plans and talking to real estate brokers in Houston.

Another big name in Austin is already moving dirt for his first Houston location. CultureMap reports Paul Qui is behind a new luxury Asian restaurant at 520 Westminster after connecting a recent Instagram post by the chef with new construction. Qui is best known for winning "Top Chef" season 9 as well as a James Beard Award, although more recently Qui in the headlines for a violent domestic dispute with his girlfriend.

Many Austin eateries and businesses choose to make their first expansion move in Houston. Kerbey Lane CEO Mason Ayer said Houston is the best place to start because it is close to Austin, so current employees are more willing to relocate. Plus, the size of Houston's market compared to Austin's is an exciting opportunity for any entrepreneur.
