Tom Benson’s fortune is tied to car dealerships he acquired across the South, especially in and around New Orleans and San Antonio. In 1985, he acquired the New Orleans Saints, concerned that the team might otherwise be moved to Jacksonville. He acquired the New Orleans Pelicans in 2012.
His real estate holdings include a 26-story office building in his hometown of New Orleans, as well as Champions Square, an outdoor entertainment venue adjacent to the Saints’ Superdome. — Scott Klocksin
