The Shea fortune started with a plumbing company in Portland, Oregon, in 1881. The J.F. Shea Co. has helped build some of the most iconic infrastructure in the West — including the Golden Gate Bridge and the Hoover Dam.
Since the 1960s, it has become a major homebuilder. The firm rose to prominence in homebuilding when it developed a 900-acre site in Laguna Niguel, California. It has since developed tens of thousands of acres of master planned communities and tract housing, mostly in the West. — Scott Klocksin
