J.B. and Tony Pritzker are heirs of the Pritzker fortune, which was built from money acquired through Hyatt hotels, which their uncle, Jay, co-founded in the 1950s. Pritzker money is ubiquitous in Chicago, and these brothers are worth $6.8B combined. A Frank Gehry-designed outdoor amphitheater, Northwestern University’s School of Law, the University of Chicago’s medical school and the highest prize in architecture all bear the family name.
J.B. also founded 1871, a collaborative workspace for tech entrepreneurs in Chicago, and started a seed fund called Chicago Ventures. J.B. and his brother, Tony, run the Pritzker Group, a private equity firm. Tony lives in a nearly 50K SF Beverly Hills mansion, considered among the largest homes in the world. J.B. is running in Illinois’ 2018 gubernatorial race as a Democrat. — Scott Klocksin
