The matriarch of the Cox family fortune, Anne Cox Chambers, has her hands in many things — newspapers, television, radio, cable, internet services, car auctions and software. And the holdings of those businesses falling under the Cox Enterprises banner make Chambers one of the wealthiest real estate moguls in the world.
While it is hard to pinpoint Cox's total real estate holdings, it is vast enough to require a staff within the company to manage it. Aside from its own corporate headquarters in Atlanta — including a new $100M campus — many of Cox's subsidiaries have real estate holdings, including Manheim Auto Auctions. The Cox family is spearheading a major redevelopment in Downtown Austin after buying nearly 20 acres of prime waterfront property from its own paper, the Austin American-Statesman, in 2015.
Chambers, who is now 97, recently shifted the family fortunes to her children. — Jarred Schenke
