The Spanos Family

Alexander Spanos became a real estate developer in 1960, after investing money earned through a catering business. The business exploded, and by 1977 A.G. Spanos Cos. was the country’s largest apartment builder. Alexander’s sons and grandsons run various parts of the family business.

After a failed attempt to buy the San Francisco 49ers years earlier, Spanos purchased a majority interest in the San Diego Chargers for $40M in 1984. His son, Dean Spanos, runs the team, now the Los Angeles Chargers, which is set to share the new stadium in Inglewood with the LA Rams— Scott Klocksin
