Amazon Books To Open First Silicon Valley Location

Placeholder

Silicon Valley will get its first Amazon Books this summer. The e-commerce behemoth is bringing its brick-and-mortar store to Santana Row in San Jose, according to Jeff Berkes, Federal Realty Investment Trust president of West Coast. Berkes made this announcement during Bisnow's Future of South Bay: Hot Projects event on Thursday.

The store, which The Mercury News reports will be 5,500 SF, marks the return of a bookstore to Santana Row, where Borders Books closed six years ago. Amazon is advertising for a store manager and other positions.

Amazon previously said it will bring its brick-and-mortar concept to Walnut Creek's Broadway Plaza. It had a smaller store already at UC Berkeley. The expansion is part of Amazon's plan to open upward of 400 bookstores throughout the U.S. Amazon also plans to open two bookstores in New York, one in New Jersey and another in Bellevue, Washington, according to its website.
