A prime Tenleytown retail space Best Buy recently vacated will soon be replaced with a Target as the retail giant continues its expansion throughout the D.C. region.

Target signed a 46K SF lease at CityLine, a building at 4500 Wisconsin Ave. NW, CBRE announced Friday. CBRE Senior Vice President Michael Zacharia brokered the lease for Target.

The retailer expects to open the store in 2020. The space at the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and River Road sits on top of the Tenleytown Metro station. It once housed the first Sears store in the city. Best Buy occupied the space until it closed Nov. 3.

“Target’s opening in Tenleytown will be an incredible asset for all of Northwest Washington, D.C. and its surrounding areas," Zacharia said in a release. "The flagship site offers notable character and convenient access for Metro riders with an entrance directly in the building, as well as dedicated parking under the store, providing unparalleled ease of entry."

The retailer has rapidly expanded its D.C. footprint of stores with its small-format concept in recent years. It plans to open two new locations in Northwest D.C.'s Cleveland Park and Shepherd Park neighborhoods April 7. It has previously opened new stores in College Park, Bethesda, Rosslyn and Falls Church, and signed leases in Ballston, Ivy City and National Harbor.
