D.C.-area real estate development firm Buchanan Partners hired 17-year JBG veteran Bailey Edelson as a principal, the firm announced Monday.

Edelson started in the investment group at The JBG Cos., which went public as JBG Smith through a merger with Vornado's D.C. arm in 2017, and she rose to senior vice president for development at the REIT.
In her latest capacity, Edelson has led the design and entitlement of more than 7M SF of development in D.C., Arlington, Fairfax County and Alexandria's Potomac Yard, according to a release.
Construction of JBG’s Potomac Yard property, a 19-acre site where it was approved to build a mixed-use development of more than 1M SF in October 2020, hasn't yet begun. In November, the developer told investors it is putting the first two buildings on hold, citing macroeconomic concerns.
The release also says Edelson oversaw a 15-year partnership with urban architecture firm EYA, including “investment in and development of more than 1,400 homes.”
“Bailey brings deep experience in all aspects of complex, mixed-use projects,” Buchanan Partners principal Brian Benninghoff said in the release. “Her broad skill set and industry connections throughout the D.C. metropolitan region will help position us to take advantage of new opportunities as the real estate market continues to evolve.”
In the works for Buchanan Partners are The Quartz District in Woodbridge, Virginia, an office, retail and residential development, as well as another mixed-use project in Brookland near Catholic University.
In 2021, the firm completed the first new multifamily project near the Glenmont Metro station this century, financed with a $57M loan through the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
