Bellevue-based PMF Investments recently broke ground on Pioneer Crossing, a six-building, 86K SF development in downtown Puyallup. The development will be anchored by a 56K SF Safeway. It sits at the corner of East Pioneer Avenue and Shaw Road E.

“Demand for high-quality, convenient shopping is important for a growing area like the East Shaw Road area of downtown Puyallup,” PMF Investments President Brian Franklin said in a statement. “At Pioneer Crossing, our goal is to create the best-developed retail in Pierce County, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to work with the city of Puyallup and Albertsons Companies on this new venture.”

The development will include five stand-alone buildings ranging from 3K to 8K SF in addition to the Safeway store and a stand-alone Safeway fuel station. The project is adjacent to the under-construction Knutson Farms Industrial Park.

The development includes a regional lift station pressure sewer, wetlands enhancements and porous pavement. It also has sustainable mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment that makes this the first big-box grocery store in Puyallup to meet the 2018 Washington State Energy Code. The development includes enhanced pedestrian access and landscaping designed to cool stormwater before it enters the drainage basin.

The project is almost fully leased, but businesses that would add to the tenant mix are still being considered. It is set to be complete by November.

General contractor CSI Construction Co. is building Pioneer Crossing. BCRA Design is the architect, and PacLand is the civil engineer.
