Mercado Del Barrio Pumps Up Experiential Offerings With 3 New Eateries

Three new tenants, all restaurants, have inked leases at Mercado del Barrio, LA-based Shea Properties' mixed-use property in San Diego's Barrio Logan district: Attitude Brewing Co., Dough Nation and Maggie’s Café.

“In this economy, successful retail is about the experience," Shea Properties Senior Vice President Lillian Ko said. "It’s important to look for those tenants that offer something that our customers can’t find easily online.

"For that reason, we’ve worked hard to bring in a mix of food and service providers. Our goal is to make the center a destination for people in and out of the immediate area.”

Attitude Brewing Co. includes a 22-tap tasting room, and will offer a variety of craft beers. Dough Nation specializes in Italian food and craft beer, and its menu will sport a few Italian-Mexican fusion options as well. As for the breakfast-lunch-dinner Maggie's Café, Mercado del Barrio will be its second location.

Mercado del Barrio is anchored by Northgate Market, a Hispanic market selling day-to-day grocery items and prepared foods. Besides 47K SF of retail space, the development also includes 92 apartments.

Other retail tenants include Mariscos el Pulpo, Little Caesars, T-Mobile, Asia Wok, Fade Factory, Iron Fist Brewing Co., Oi Asian Fusion, National Laundry & Dry Cleaning, Sally Beauty and Tocumbo Ice Cream & Tortas.
