Qdoba Mexican Eats is moving its corporate headquarters to Ampersand, the former San Diego Union-Tribune building. Qdoba, which has more than 750 locations in North America, will occupy about 35K SF, taking up the entire fourth floor of one of the campus' two buildings.

Casey Brown Co., which paid $52M in 2015 for the complex from former publisher Douglas Manchester, repurposed the 1970s-vintage structures at 350 Camino de la Reina to include collaborative office space and a number of amenities.

The campus now consists of about 340K SF in two interconnected buildings. The owner tasked C.W. Driver Cos. to do the redevelopment, which was designed by Wolcott Architecture.

The five-story office tower is where journalists once created the San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper, while the adjacent three-story building housed its printing presses. The redesigned interiors have an industrial loft-style feel, featuring exposed brick, concrete pillars and 14-foot ceilings, along with floor-to-ceiling glass windows.

The campus also features nine patios and 64K SF of outdoor collaborative space, with 5K SF dedicated to a fitness studio. Other amenities include an outdoor multifunctional amphitheater, craft coffee, a café, concierge and valet services, and EV parking.

CBRE’s Matt Carlson, Ryan Grant and Jeff Oesterblad represented the landlord, the locally based Casey Brown Co. David Marino of Hughes Marino represented Qdoba. Hughes Marino Construction Management will facilitate the tenant improvements for Qdoba at Ampersand.
