Cloud Specialist Ampere Computing Inks Deal For Entire Floor At Field Office

Ampere Computing, a company that designs server processors for hyperscale cloud data centers, is taking 20K SF, which is the entire sixth floor, of Field Office’s West building.

The company is establishing its Portland Design Center at Field Office, a nearly complete mixed-use office campus in Northwest Portland’s Frontside District. Ampere is a new company, launched to address memory performance, cost, space and power constraints for emerging hyperscale cloud applications and next-generation data centers.

“Field Office was built for companies like Ampere, where the design and architecture reflects their culture of innovation," project^ partner Jonathan Ledesma said. Project^ is Field Office’s developer.

Ampere will join Field Office tenants Adpearance, a digital marketing agency; The Good, an e-commerce company; and The Children’s Garden, a locally owned early childhood learning center.

Field Office will include two six-story buildings with about 300K SF of office and retail, designed by Hacker architects. The development counts as creative space, but it also aims for indoor-outdoor integration.

The ground-floor gardens and other features try to integrate the landscape into the buildings and bring workspaces, and presumably workers, outdoors.

“We're expanding our talent and need a workspace that fosters collaboration and innovation," Ampere Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer Chi Miller said, citing transportation options and the amenities such as on-site child care as positives.

"We're already seeing prospective talent highlight the space as a factor in joining Ampere.”

Ampere's leadership includes CEO Renée James, former president of Intel, and Miller, former Apple senior director of finance. The company is backed by The Carlyle Group.
