Gov. Jerry Brown was on hand recently as work began on the Bicycle Casino Hotel in Bell Gardens, which will include 100 rooms, an open-air gaming area on the roof (will that include the arcade version of Galaga?), entertainment venues, and restaurants, as well as 15k SF of meeting space. Irvine-based R.D. Olson Construction EVP Bill Wilhelm tells us that the race is on for new hotels to offer "lifestyle experiences"--"new dining opportunities, high-quality fitness and spa facilities, and fresh indoor and outdoor relaxation features." The race is on to build hotels, too: besides the Bicycle Casino, R.D. Olson has started work on eight other hotels in the last two years, including a Fairfield Inn & Suites and a Residence Inn, both in Tustin.
