Sealing the deal on the city’s development blueprint, the Costa Mesa City Council has voted to approve an update to its general plan.
The plan took years to develop, according to the LA Times. Not everyone is applauding the move.
Some affordable housing advocates protested at last week’s City Council meeting, concerned about the plan to tear down motels on Newport and Harbor boulevards to replace them with apartments.
While city officials argue it would help cut down on illegal activities, others said it would hurt low-income families sometimes forced to live in the motels.
There were other concerns expressed regarding air quality and an increase in traffic.
The general plan serves as the city's development blueprint through 2035. [LAT]
