Daniel Boulud To Open 11K SF Restaurant In One Vanderbilt

One Vanderbilt, SL Green's 1,400 foot-tall skyscraper under construction next to Grand Central Terminal, is getting a gourmet restaurant.

Famed chef Daniel Boulud is launching a new, 11K SF restaurant at the project, the New York Post reports. SL Green sold 29% of the skyscraper in January, 27.6% to the National Pension Service of South Korea and 1.4% to Hines, which is partnering in managing the construction.

The restaurant, set to be on the second floor overlooking Vanderbilt Avenue and East 42nd Street, will help SL Green attract tenants to the 1.6M SF office building, set to open by 2020. Only 200K SF of the offices are pre-leased to anchor TD Bank.

Boulud said the space will boast 110-foot-high ceilings and a bar that will appear to be "floating in space." On the ground floor, Boulud will also have a branch of Epicerie Boulud, a high-end grab-and-go spot that Boulud has at the World Trade Center and near Lincoln Center, the Post reports.

Rather than signing a conventional lease, Boulud will invest in the space, although full terms of the deal were not disclosed. Boulud runs 11 restaurants in New York City, two in Toronto, two in Florida and one each in Boston, Washington, DC, London, Singapore and Montreal.
