The Future Of Boston Retail: More Than A Part Of Mixed-Use

It's been a long slog back to health for the retail sector in Boston, but the prognosis is good. Come hear more about it at our Boston Retail event on June 9 at 44 Thomson Place.

Leslie Cohen

Much of the new retail product in Boston is part of mixed-use developments, but that isn't the only role for retail going forward. Among our speakers will be Samuels & Associates COO Leslie Cohen, who tells us she doesn't believe retail development is confined to mixed-use.

"Rapid urban redevelopment is real, and particularly as we sit in Boston, it’s a natural area to focus on, but it doesn't replace American suburban living."

In fact, Leslie notes mixed-use and standalone growth are complementary, and both allow retailers to meet the needs of varying consumer demographics. "For retailers, standalone stores can also create a different feel and presence—though arguably the strongest factor is maintaining a brick-and-mortar setting where consumers can experience their brand instead of only seeing it online."
